Black Madonna of Czestochowa Queen of Poland is an icon in the national shrine guarded by the Monks of St. Paul of the Desert. Legend hold that St. Luke painted the icon on a table made by Jesus and discovered by St. Helena in Jerusalem. Many many victories and deliverences for Poland have occurred by intercession of this Black Madonna. In modern times she is venerated by Pope John Paul II, and is a rallying point for Poland's national solidarity movement.
Her right cheek bears the saber scars inflicted by patriarchal conquerors. And the fleur-de-lis pattern on her robes represents the bee goddess of ancient times.
For many European Christians, the blending of their ancient Goddesses with the Blessed Virgin Mary has been a well accepted fact of their faith for centuries, there is no conflict. The Black Madonna, be She called Isis, or Mary, or Kali, or Diana, embodies all the aspects of Female Divinity for many millions of people.
Today, the church is on the verge of declaring the Virgin and a co-redemer (co-redemtrix) of souls.
