Kernunnos/Gobniu 5 3/4" statue |
Forest god of the Celts.
Fertility. Prophesy. Insiration. Rebirth.
Three heads signify great power. This tri-cephalic bust depicts the forest god of the Celts in his most potent form. For these earth-worshiping peoples of old Europe, satuary empasizing the head symbolized fertility, prophecy, inspiration and rebirth, and triplism implied extreme power. The neck torc and stag antlers symbolize his role as husbandman, providing growth and protection.
This image also represents the Irish deity Gobniu-Luchta-Credne, the three gods of skill. Gaelic oral tradition names him the alchemical patron of smithcraft, poetry and sacred beer-brewing.
